  • An IMAP and SMTP account — app passwords work where OAuth is not implemented.
  • dig — optional, used for SRV and MX autodetection.

On Debian or Ubuntu:

Frequently asked questions

Do I need root to install termmail?

No. The installer writes to /usr/local by default, which needs root, but you can install into your home directory with PREFIX=$HOME/.local ./install.sh or simply copy the termmail script to ~/.local/bin.

Is lynx included in the download?

No. lynx is a separate GPL-licensed program and is not bundled. Install it with your package manager, for example sudo apt install lynx on Debian or Ubuntu.

Does termmail support OAuth?

No. termmail uses IMAP and SMTP with a username and password. For Gmail, Outlook and similar providers, create an app password and use that instead of your normal password.

Where does termmail store settings and attachments?

Settings live in ~/.config/termmail/config.json. Attachments are saved wherever you choose, defaulting to ~/Downloads.

How do I uninstall termmail?

Remove the installed script with sudo rm /usr/local/bin/termmail and optionally delete ~/.config/termmail. No other files are installed.
